Lieutenant General Konsam Himalay Singh, YSM is an Indian Army General officer, and is the first Manipuri person to achieve the rank of Lieutenant General in the army of independent India.〔(first Maj General from Manipur )〕〔(The Telegraph - Calcutta (Kolkata) | Northeast | Manipur gets first Maj. ==Early life and education==
General K. Himalay Singh was born in Charangpat village in Thoubal district, Manipur, and had his early education in schools there. In 1968, he joined the Sainik School Goalpara in Assam. Singh joined the prestigious National Defence Academy in 1974, and received his Bachelor's degree from that institution.〔(K Himalay becomes first Manipuri Maj-Gen in Army - Times Of India )〕 He holds a Master's degree in Defence Studies, and an MPhil degree in Strategic Studies from Madras University. Additionally, he has completed a postgraduate degree in Management studies, from Osmania University, Hyderabad, with distinction.〔
